Better than Mardi Gras!!!

When I discovered the Somerset Carnival 7 years ago I always make sure I travel down to join in the celebrations.

If you’ve never seen this Carnival it needs to go on your bucket list. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. I’ve been really lucky to work and travel to many Country’s and seen fantastic things, but this has to be my favourite annual UK celebration.

This year I was able to take my 9 year old Niece down with me, so we hit the M5 last Saturday and traveled the short 1 1/2 hour journey to Bridgwater. When we arrived the atmosphere was great with Live bands in the high street, food stalls and spectators already taking their seats in their camping chairs at 4pm to get a good viewing spot even though the Carnival did not start until 7:15pm.

We were certainly not disappointed this year, even with a late start and a broken down float adding to the delays the Carnival was spectacular. The lighting rigs, loud music, dancers and party atmosphere was fantastic.

The Carnival Clubs spend all year perfecting their magnificent floats, a few of the Clubs are always in direct competition with each other to take home the winning prize, April was pleased as three floats had decided on ‘The Greatest Showman’ theme her favourite film, it was hard to pick a winner from the three.

Here’s some of our best bits, not the best filming at the start as we were stood so close but it gets better further on.

If you get chance to head down to the Carnival over the next few weeks here are the dates, I guarantee you will love it:-

North Petherton Saturday 10 November 7:00pm
