Palma – there is plenty to see in a day!

I have just returned from Palma for the weekend to celebrate my friends birthday!

We had 1 ½ days and 2 nights to enjoy what the city has to offer.

A great way to see the city is to take a trip on the open top bus!

18 Euros is all you pay for a 24-hour ticket. You can either purchase your ticket on-line, at 1 of the 18 stops if there is someone there or on the bus itself.

We stayed on the bus for the entire circle of the city and then hopped off at stops of interest to explore a little.

We stopped at Bellver Castle which is high up just outside of the city. The castle was built over 700 years ago in 14th Century for the King. The museum is interesting and the views over Palma are stunning!

We also stopped off along from the harbour and had some lunch in the Boat house restaurant and bar. The menu was great with a good selection of snacks, main meals and breakfast. We opted for a burger which was delish. Make sure you ask for it well done unless you like a little blood!

If you prefer something a little more traditional, a little further down was a place called Mercat. Very modern with a self-service feel you chose food and drink at different stations and seating was available in and outside. We chose a cocktail called Aperol spritz which is 1-part aperol, prosecco followed by a splash of soda water, serves with a slice of orange. Delicious!

We also stopped at the Cathedral! It has much more to offer with beautiful gardens, water fountains and glorious flowers.

The surrounding area is lovely to stop for a picnic or just a pit stop. The old town is just across from the gardens and the narrow streets are home to many bars and restaurants. The bars are a bit pricey. Abaca is worth a visit if you like to sample the true Spanish experience. This is also home to the designer shops if you head up past the round-about. If you prefer a cheaper option, head for the surrounding areas.

If you stop at the area known as Jamie III then there are more shops and markets.

Have you been to Palma?

What did you think?

Thanks for reading!
