Sad times for the travel industry

I was very sad to hear the news yesterday that Thomas Cook have ceased trading.
Thomas Cook were one of the best known travel companies in the UK and started their journey in 1841 in Leicester which is where I am from.
I have never worked for them like a lot of my colleagues but I do have friends that have worked for them over the years and I am very sad for those that have lost their jobs. The travel industry is like one big family and for many it isn’t just a job it is a lifestyle.
I wish them all the best and I am sure they will find new jobs within the industry with offers of support already being made.

For those that had their package holidays booked with them they are covered by ATOL and will be able to claim back the cost of their holiday.
Many people have flights with Thomas Cook through a 3rd party operator. P&O Cruises for example used Thomas Cook flights for a lot of their packages and are now in the process of arranging alternatives.

Repatriation will be under way for those that are already abroad on their holiday and they will be able to return home as planned.

My thoughts go out to all involved.
