Planetarium at sea

Viking Ocean Cruises have an exciting new feature on their newest ship Orion
This will be the first of their ships to feature a planetarium although not the first in the cruise industry. However it is the most advanced on a cruise liner.
The dome will be located in the Explorers lounge but has not taken up any seating space and has been fully sound checked to make sure it doesn’t disturb any guests using the lounges.
The dome will feature laser-beam projectors, studio speakers and 2D & 3D options.
They will feature several shows each week and the main shows are Journey into Space which is a history of space travel and Under the Arctic Sky to look at the Northern Lights.
There will also be lecturers on board which is the same as any Viking Ocean cruise with the Orion will also have an astronomer who will lead 2 lectures per cruise.
Viking Ocean cruises ships are all the same in terms and décor and fixtures and fitting’s so this will be the first to offer a new experience to their guests.
They include open speciality dining and drinks beer, wine and soft drinks with lunch and dinner.
They are small ships that are proving very popular especially after they were featured in the television series Cruising with Jane McDonald.
With bigger ships being built now it is nice to see that Viking have stuck to their small ship concept because there is still a market out there for smaller more intimate cruise experiences.
