MSC order four smaller ultra luxury ships

MSC Cruises have been expanding rapidly for a good few years now and the trend has always been bigger and flashier ships with new features as their new ones are introduced.

MSC have just made a new ship announcement that I hadn’t expected. They have ordered four new ships but rather then them having at a 4300 or larger passenger capacity like for example the upcoming Bellissima, these will only have a total of 500 cabins and be 64,000 GRT.

MSC do not yet have experience in the ultra luxury ship market with ships built exclusively for that purpose, but they have had a lot of success with their Yacht Club ‘ship within a ship’ concept and they obviously feel that this is a sector that they could further expand into.

There will be a while to still wait for this with the newest of these ships set to roll out in Spring 2023 and then the others within the three years afterwards.

I will be interested to see what happens with these ships, who will they compete with? What will it cost to sail on them? How much will it cost to sail on them?

It will definitely be interesting to see how things pan out.
