Celebrity Cruises take delivery of their new ship, the Edge

There has been loads of hype surrounding the new Celebrity Cruises ship, the Edge. This ship is the first new ship for the cruise line in six years and is a brand new design of ship.

I have always found Celebrity Cruises ships to be some of the most beautifully designed and luxurious ships at sea and from images I have seen this new ship should be aiming to take that another step further.

Whilst many competitors new ships have taken a big increase in capacity the new Edge will accommodate 2900 guests. The previous Solstice class was 2850 which I know worked very well so good news there I think as many people don’t find 4 or 5 thousand guest capacity a bit too much.

One of the most outstanding new features of this ship is a “floating” deck called the Magic Carpet, which can double as a tender station or restaurant/bar depending on where it’s located.

The Edge will depart today, November the 6th to her new home port of Port Everglades in Port Canaveral.

After the Caribbean she will re position to the Mediterranean, offering cruises out of Barcelona and Rome and will also sail a two-night mini-cruise out of Southampton, England.

I really hope I get chance to see this ship when she sails over to the UK and it’s exciting to know that the next ship from this class, the Apex will be launching from Southampton.
