My Grand Tour of China – Xi’an and the Terracotta Army

So now we come to the 3rd stop on my Tour of China. If you have missed the last two click here for the links.

We arrived in Xi’an around tea time so we were driven to our hotel and walked across the road to the restaurant where we had our meals prepared for us. The food here was really nice and tastier than the meals we had at Beijing.

After the meal we checked into the Lanxi International Hotel. Beautiful hotel, lovely big rooms, rain showers, huge bed and plenty of storage not that we needed it for the 2 nights.

We had quite an early start ahead of us but the idea was to cover as much as possible before the big crowds start. Our guide in Xi’an was Lisa. Lovely lady very knowledgeable and so friendly.

We started the day by heading to the Art Ceramics and Lacquer Center – the furniture and art work in this center was stunning.  Here you can see smaller versions of the warriors and you could also purchase them. We got a lovely set to take home for the in laws, i got a kneeling archer for my brother then we had a couple of statues for ourselves. This is much cheaper than buying them from the Terracotta Warrior Site as you are buying them directly from the exhibition center. Also the ones from street vendors are fake.

Afterwards we then moved onto the Terracotta Warriors museum. The site is very large so if you struggle with mobility there are staff around who can take you around in a wheelchair, you can haggle the price down. Plus  they are really good at getting you to the front for a great view.

I won’t give too much away here as the history of them is very fascinating and all is not what you expect but in a very good way. I found this day really interesting.

Heading into the evening it was time to be taken for our Dumpling Banquet meal and watch the Tang Dynasty Music and Dance Show. We had 14 different flavored dumplings to sample. Plenty of meaty or vegetable variety. I loved some of the shapes they came in.

We had really good seats for the show. You do get a leaflet which gives you the low down of the story as of course it is all in Chinese. But the music, the costumes and the dances were amazing i really enjoyed this show.

Safe to say we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Xi’an. Another early start was needed for the Bullet Train the next morning onto Chengdu. Make sure you tune in for that one as it was time to visit the Pandas.
