End of an Era!

It truly is the end of an era, Thomas Cook has ceased trading, they were the original travel package provider and it was a sad day for all those involved with Thomas Cook – whether it be staff or customer.

My travel journey started with Thomas Cook wayyyy back in 2007, and I spent the best 4 years there with some amazing people.  I started there just after I finished college (I studied Travel and Tourism), so was great to get my foot in the door.  But due to my moving to Swansea, there was no position for me to transfer to, so, unfortunately, my ties with Thomas Cook ended there.  However, I met some amazing people, who I am still in contact with to this day.

It was truly sad to see all the customer either left in limbo on their holidays or having their holiday cancelled at such short notice.  And for us, we had to make sure all our customers were secured on alternative flights or at least kept in the loop with forthcoming bookings.  Although it was a sad day, it was great to see the travel industry as a whole get behind the Thomas Cook staff, and offer open days for those affected specifically by Thomas Cook, to get them back into the industry that they love.  With some business, like ourselves, holding CV workshops and just generally getting behind them.

Days/Weeks like this, just go to show how important having a holiday ABTA and ATOL bonded is, as with ATOL, the company you booked with or the CAA (if ceased trading) have an obligation to repatriate you home or provided new flights (if not yet travelled).  Sometimes getting your holiday for the cheapest price possible is not always for the best.  For me, I would rather my holiday is secure for an extra few pounds than do it myself and risk anything going wrong.
