Vietnam here we come!

I am very excited as myself and my partner Darryl have booked our flights to Vietnam for the Easter holidays next year.  We struggle to fit in time to travel but every chance we get we love to visit new destinations and explore.  In previous years we have traveled around parts of Thailand and Sri Lanka as well as to many European destinations.  Here are our plans!

We are flying to Hanoi where we will stay for 2 nights to explore in the daytime and enjoy the buzzing nightlife of the Old Quarter.  We will then book a night on a boat cruise on the famous Halong Bay.  The cruise companies pick up and drop off in Hanoi and include trips to caves, a fishing village, squid fishing, kayaking and sampling local cuisine, cooking classes and tai chi!  Now just to choose which cruise to pick as there are so many!

After the cruise we will stay in Hanoi for 1 more night before flying down to Hue, home of the Imperial city.  We have seen this area on the Top Gear Vietnam special and it looks incredible.  After a couple of nights staying in Hue we plan to take a bus down to Hoi An with stops on the Hai Van pass and Marble mountains on the way.  We plan to stay in Hoi-An for 3 nights.  I have been told by some colleagues that this is their favourite place in Vietnam which is iconic for its beautiful rivers, old town and many lanterns.

For the last leg of our journey we will fly down to Ho Chi Min City.  To me this place seems very crazy and busy but I thought when in Vietnam we have to experience it and I have been told it is an amazing place.  We will visit the Chu Chi tunnels which are apparently a must see and book a small cruise down the Mekong River.

If you’ve been to Vietnam and have any tips, idea of extra places to visit then please let me know.  I am very excited about our trip.. only 8 months to go!
