P&O shock everyone by selling arguably their most popular ship to Azamara!

‘I am aware that there has been speculation about P&O Cruises small ship Adonia following her exclusion from our latest brochure.

I am now in a position to tell you that yesterday we signed a contract for the sale of Adonia. The sale will be completed in March 2018 and Adonia’s last cruise as a P&O Cruises ship will be D804 leaving Barbados on February 23nd and ending in Barbados on March 9th 2018.’

This was the statement from senior vice president of P&O, Paul Ludlow, which shocked customers and agents alike!

Just a few days ago it was announced that P&O have sold their smallest and much-loved ship The Adonia to Azamara cruise lines.  This was such a shock as P&O Adonia has provided P&O guests with the opportunity to visit unique destinations that only a small ship can visit.  Holding a capacity of around 700 passengers meant it offered an intimate feel and these aspects made it a very popular addition to P&O’s fleet and these cruises were selling out very quickly.  What makes the acquisition worse for many customers was that those who have already booked a cruise on the ship for after 9 March 2018 and were looking forward to their cruises have just found out that their cruise has now been cancelled.

So, what have P&O said regarding the matter and how will they help the guests who were booked on and now couldn’t cruise on the Adonia?

Take a look at our news story for full details of the acquisition and what P&O have to say and offer customer who have booked with them:

So, who are Azamara and why would they wish to acquire the ship for their fleet?

Azamara only have 2 ships at present the Azamara Quest and Azamara Journey.  They place themselves as being a boutique style cruise-line which offers customers the opportunity to immerse themselves into their destinations, offering many overnight stays, the possibility to get into smaller ports due to the smaller size of the ship and special Azamazing evening on most voyages which includes spectacular excursions for customers for an evening not to forget!

In my opinion the size of the Adonia will fit in perfectly to the Azamara fleet and this is a great buy for Azamara with the popularity of their style of cruising growing.  I do however feel that this is a huge loss for P&O and its customers and the Adonia will be sorely missed by customers who may not be able to afford to sail on her when she is an Azamara ship due to the price difference.
