Venice, You Never Fail To Impress….

I am fortunate to have cruised from Venice on a few occasions and never fail to be in awe of the amazing views of this iconic city.

This time, having stayed in Venice on numerous occasions, we decided to travel out on the early flight on the same day as sailing on Celebrity Constellation. Don’t get me wrong, I would happily have spent time there but, this time, we were staying on in Italy post-cruise and so had limited time.

Instead to going straight to the port, and as we had time before embarkation, we took the airport bus for the 20 minute journey to Piazzale Roma which is the last point for road transport on Venice Island. The fare was 8 Euros per person. From here, you get a glimpse of the Grand Canal so we stopped for a couple of photos and a short stroll. We had our luggage with us so were limited with steps and bridges but this is definitely worth a quick stop especially if on a first visit.

There are a few options from here to the nearby port. You can arrive in style in a water taxi, you can take a cab, you can walk (not a good idea in heat with luggage) or you can, as we did, take the People Mover to Marittima which is a monorail taking a few minutes and costing just 1.50 Euros per person.

When sailing from Venice, you must be on deck to fully appreciate the view. As the ship glides towards to ocean, you are treated to an incredible birds-eye view of glittering canals, leaning towers and the famous St Marks Square edged with gondolas.

On this occasion, there were 5 ships in port and I could satisfy my ship-spotting inner geek as Holland America Oosterdam and MSC Poesia were docked next to each other and I was lucky to be on board each of them when they were launched.
