My Day At Wimbledon

On Tuesday I was lucky to spend an amazing day on the Centre Court at The All England Club in Wimbledon.

It has been many years since I have been to this iconic venue and I am pleased to say that the atmosphere and the tennis were just as good as I remembered.

We started the day in style at The Lawn where we enjoyed a delightful lunch  prepared by Michelin-starred Michel Roux Jr accompanied by champagne and cocktails before being taken in golf buggies to the match.

We took our seats and scoured the Royal box for famous faces.

First on was Serena Williams who won her place through to the semi finals. Next up was Brit Johanna Konta who was sadly defeated.

After all the excitement, it was back in the buggies to The Lawn for afternoon tea and strawberries and cream, which is the traditional fayre for this championship.  Feeling rather full now, we returned to the Center Court to watch Serena Williams again now partnered with Andy Murray in a very exciting mixed doubles match where they triumphed.

I love watching any live sport as I feel this is a totally different experience to watching on television.

The weather was glorious and the whole day was wonderful. In 2009, the Centre Court was fitted with a retractable roof in case of inclement weather but thankfully this was not needed. Since 1877, the matches have been played here on grass courts. Unlike the other Grand Slam tournaments, Wimbledon is the most traditional with a strict dress code for the players who will always wear white.

If you are ever fortunate to have tickets, there is a ballot every year, or just want to queue to get access to the grounds, this is a magical day out. and one I plan to repeat if I can.
