My first Expedition experience, well almost.

As I am sure you are all aware we here at Cruise never miss an opportunity for a ship visit. This one for me was quite different to anything else I have been on. Silversea is six star luxury and have never been lucky enough to sell as well as go on board. So when the Silver Cloud made a call into Hull recently, and Hull being within an hour of my home I was more than happy to attend.

I have sold some luxury cruises and had an image of a white small yacht like ship, I was surprised to see her black exterior this I found out later is because these ships are built to sail ice packed and very rough seas. They are described as understated luxury attracting the more experienced and adventurous guests that still require all the comforts expected of this line. Silversea explain as this :-

An expedition with Silversea luxury cruises is unlike any other form of travel — thrilling, awe-inspiring and humbling all at the same time. It can take you to some of the most remote regions of the world . It is for the curious traveller who longs to see an orang-utan in the wild or what lies behind the next mountain ridge. But it’s not just about wildlife or mountains. It’s about immersing yourself in the culture, landscape and habitat of a region with the help of experts who can illuminate all you see. From the lush rainforests of the equatorial Pacific to the polar extremes at the very edge of the world, our expedition ships sail to all seven continents. You can explore pelagic wonderlands, admire volcanic plateaus gushing with geysers, or enter the realm of the Polar Bear. But no matter where you go, you’ll enjoy a uniquely immersive experience, expanding your global perspective and prompting you to re-evaluate what really matters. And rest assured- no creature comfort will be denied on an expedition cruise with Silversea.

This I found all to be very true, whilst talking to crew and guests alike who all were overwhelmed with enthusiasm for the ports of call, ship itself and the dining. We looked at only one suite as this cruise was full and again found bright modern facilities.

This 254 guest ship was refurbished in 2017 and carried on board 16 brand new Zodiacs (I had not a clue what these were). I can just imagine going ashore in one of these speeding through Antarctica, Greenland, Galapagos or the South Pacific to name but a few of its 900 destinations in 7 countries.

This is certainly for the person who thinks they have seen and done most other type of cruise itinerary. But think again if you want to experience a new adventure give this a try
