Tips included…or is it a con?

P&O cruises reciently announced that they are stopping tipping on their ships from May 2019.  Now MSC have announced that any new bookings from 29th June, mSC are including the gratuity (tips) within their crusie cost.

This means ae extra 7 euro per person per day addition to the cruise fare.  Its this right?  Gratuities is a huge talking point amongst cruisers.  Should the tips be given before or after good service has been given?

Your cabin steward absolutly deserves their tip.  You are on holiday and you have someone else cleaning your cabin and making your bed. But what about the guys in the laundry, in the engine room, the chefs and waiters, should they not get their bite of the tips cherry.   Yes as a past crew member, the cruise lines should pay their crew more, thats without a shadow of doubt.

For American lines, their philosophy and the way they treat tips is different to us.  It is expected regardless of the service they give, if you have ever eaten in a restaurant in the US it is nearly impossible to leave the building without a tip and if you do you could get a tap on the shoulder as you are leaving the restaurante, which might be a little uncomfortable.

Tipping is a mine field.  I think being British we should be allowed to tip after the service given, mind you thats me.  What do you think?
