Storm season is upon us

As we may already know, the best time to sail to the Craibbean is between late October and mid March because this is teh best weather in that part of the world.  However some cruise lines have ships stationed out of Miami and Fort Lauderdale all year round and still go to the Caribbean.  The trouble is that August and September is hurricane season.

Yes its a gamble as it can be excellent weather in the Caribbean in our Summer however storms can create itinerary changes or even cancel your cruise.  At the moment Tropical storm Dorian is in the news.

‘Tropical Storm Dorian, brewing in the Caribbean and aiming toward Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic, has prompted several cruise ship itinerary changes.’

‘The storm has prompted a tropical storm warning for the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as islands near Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico itself, as well as the Dominican Republic from Isla Saona to Samana, are under a hurricane watch. National Hurricane Center predict that the storm may reach hurricane strength Wednesday when it reaches Puerto Rico early on August 28, but could possibly weaken as it travels over the island. The eventual path shows the storm could head toward the southeast Bahamas and Turks & Caicos on August 30.’

Royal Caribbeans Allure of the seas and Symphony of the seas have changed from an Eatsern to a Western itinerary.  Harmony of the seas, which left August 25 from Port Canaveral, switched to Western Caribbean, and will be going to Perfect Day at CocoCay, Cozumel, Roatan and Costa Maya.

So just be aware if you do book a cruise ‘out of season’ as you never know what may happen.
