Not a great week for cruising

It is not often that cruise lines get a bad wrap and hit the headlines.  Normally everything goes swimmingly, however on occasion things can go wrong and are out of control of the cruise line.  Weather and technical issues have marred this week.

26th Oct Navigator of the Seas left Southampton on a 10 night Canaries sailing.  On the first day as sea the ship had an engine failure which apparently breached the hull.  The ship had to dock in Vigo, Spain for two nights to be repaired.  So the ship can meet her Trans Atlantic cruise this Canaries cruise has been cut short and the Itinerary has been changed.   Apparently on board,  the communication between ship staff and guests is not too great.  Guests have been given on board credit and there is word of a future cruise credit for a future sailing.

Yesterday Celebrity Constellation broke its moorings in La Spieza, Italy and collided with a Costa ship.  Know one has been injured but the cause of this was due to very high winds in the area.  The ship will arrive in Rome for the end of the cruise later on today.

And…Venice is under water.  The bad weather in Europe has flooded St Marks square and the surrounding areas.  This is a seasonal thing in Venice but the heavy rain recently hasn’t helped.  Lets hope this is the last of the bad news for a while.
