And another flight bites the dust!!

News just out that Primera Air have ceased trading.

Primera Air who are based in Denmark and Latvia have ceased trading stranding thousands of passengers around the world. Their passenger base were mainly Nordic passengers who have been flying with Primera Air for 15 years.

Last year Primera Air announced they were to branch out to Trans Atlantic flights to New York, Boston, and Toronto from Birmingham Airport ( I remember this as a local radio station were promoting Primera Air with a free flight to New York) Last year the discount airline were trying to muscle in as the big Airlines as British Airways/American Airlines stopped their route from Birmingham to New York (again i know…i was booked on American Airlines). However this route did not start with Primera which made people think.

The collapse comes on the first anniversary of the collapse of Monarch Airlines.  Many of the crew and staff from Monarch moved over to Primera Air which is a kick in the guts for them as exactly the same thing has happened.

Does this make you think about booking low cost/budget airlines?  Since the Monarch collapse i have seen significant rises in flights from Birmingham with Jet 2 especially so looks like some Airlines will profit from the demise of Primera Air
