Southern Caribbean’s Home

If you are getting a bit fed up of cruising from Florida (Miami and Fort Lauderdale) to the Caribbean, or been there and done that. Why not seriously think about taking a cruise from Barbados. P&O, Fred Olsen, MSC, Seabourn, Carnival, Windstar and Star Clipper all depart from Bridgetown.  The island is really beautiful and is home to some of the best beaches in the Caribbean as well as having a Unesco World Heritage listed capital and not forgetting that in 2019 it is home to the West Indies cricket tour!

The island has direct flights from London with Virgin and British Airways and I think it is a great choice to do either a pre or post cruise stay. The actual port of Bridgetown is roughly about 13 miles from the airport and has a great choice of bars, shops etc and i guess only about 25 minutes walk into the town itself.

If you do fancy doing this then my recommendation would be to stay at St Lawrence Gap. It is not a very big resort (Barbados is not a big island  only 21 miles long!) but it has some great bars, restaurants, shops etc and some really great accommodation. Just a good vibe i think. Because nowhere is too far from anything it would make a good port of call to stay for a few days.

Barbados is one of the friendliest islands I have stayed at, not at all like Jamaica for example which I think is a little intimidating.  There are some great places to visit if you do not just want to lie in the sun and if you like rum there is a bottling plant not far from the port which does offer tours and tasters!

If you are just flying in and out of Bridgetown, do try and take time if you can, for a wander around Bridgetown before your flight home – I really don’t think you would be disappointed.

Food for thought I hope!

Till next time x
