Please Don’t Ignore This

I feel compelled to talk about travel insurance this week as over the past month I have had many a conversation with people who are struggling, as not booked any.

Please, please get your insurance sorted now.  Ideally this should be in place when you book your cruise or just after. Why you may ask, as your cruise may not be for a good few months yet. Well, if you have to cancel due to ill health and don’t have any then you will lose your money, that’s why!

Travel insurance is not just for medical cover either, it can cover you for a lot of things you probably don’t even think about, however, you really do have to shop around and read the conditions. I am not an insurance expert by all means, nor do i actually sell insurance, but I have worked in this industry long enough to see huge problems with people’s cover, this is why I thought in a nutshell, you should be looking at the following..

Cancellation of your holiday – goes without saying if you did have to cancel due to illness this is what would kick in. Please do bear in mind that if anyone has a pre – existing condition you do need to declare it, if you don’t and have to cancel because of this, you are not covered. This seems to be a common problem.

Travel delay is another one. Having experienced a whole day’s delay last year, it is a real pain in the neck. Make sure you are covered for this.

Loss of baggage. Can you imagine finding out your bags have gone missing when your at the airport or on the ship? Awful – travel insurance will cover you.

Medical expenses and personal accident – the big one! You will I am sure have read nightmare stories of people in hospital beds who are moaning they have to fork out for treatment – I can bet that a lot of these people do not have any insurance cover. Make sure that your cover does include a lot of money, as you may need it!

Emergency repatriation, this one I am afraid is another one that people can fall foul of. If your are sailing in the middle of the ocean without any land close by and suffer from a heart attack or are very ill, you will need to be flown off the ship to a hospital, this again is another one to check how much you are covered for.

Redundancy – some insurance companies will cover you for this, again it is important to check.

It really is so important that you do have this cover, and whilst I do appreciate insurance can be expensive, surely it is better to pay for it, and have that knowledge you will be looked after?

I have heard so many times people say “if only” – please dont let that be you.

Till next time x
