Cruise & Work Your Biceps!

Does that sound possible? Part of the thrill of cruising is eating and drinking, can we really do this and get fitter?  Ama Waterways are one cruise line who are really pushing hard on their “wellness themed cruises” and say you can just do that.

The wellness programme is now available on 6 ships in the European fleet which takes in the Danube, and Rhine to name a few. It is not just a programme which you can read it is actually held by instructors and they have some smashing activities to do such as 4 daily classes which incorporates yoga, cardio, circuits, and core strengthening. Then they have at least one lecture  which will include chats on fitness, health, that kind of thing and on top of that you can sign up for some personal training sessions, which of course will cost you!

Apart from having instructors there to inspire you (or not) there are also great “healthy” things to do such as sightseeing, walking tours, hiking and a bit of cycling which are all included in the cost of the cruise.  Even the ships are equipped with a small gym area along with a massage room.  So, you may ask why? After all we want to get away from home/work life on holiday and relax don’t we?

The answer is that now the powers that be in the cruising world are saying that “healthy cruises” are on the up. Our clients do not just want to gorge yourself on food. You want the chance to try out new things such as the above or perhaps try out a bit of meditation or go the the other extreme and do a bit of zumba! Believe it or not but you can even try some “boot camp” sessions on Norwegian Cruise Lines!

One cruise line says and I quote “there is no excuse for not getting into tip top shape whilst cruising.”  Whilst I am sure there are many of you out there who would jump at the chance to do this, I am sure there are plenty of people who would NOT as you are on holiday to relax and eat and drink, and dare i say it but maybe just a little “gorge” or two!

I welcome all your comments!

Till next time x
