Do Silversea Float Your Boat?

In the luxury cruise world there are a few cruise lines you would I am sure, remember. The likes of Regent, Crystal, Viking, Hapag Lloyd, Seabourn, Oceania, and Silverseas.  They are all equally excellent in their own right and all have die hard fans who would not go with anyone else.  In all my years working in the cruise industry , I have been on many of these ships and seen what they offer yet one cruise line for me, had never really “floated my boat” and that is Silversea.

It is very difficult to pin down to you why but if I have to be pushed I think they lost their way a bit the last few years with other cruise lines bringing out better ships or better amenities, better furnishings etc. However, NOW I think they have turned a corner!

Why do I think that?  Well for a start they have a new managing director who i used to work for and who has a wealth of experience in the cruising and travel industry. I know he will be brilliant at his job and has great foresight. I also think they have upped their game too.  They have ordered 1 new ship which is a sister one to the Silver Muse, and to be called the Silver Moon.  Currently the Silver Spirit is being cut in two, as it will be extended by 49 feet in size and also have extensive refurbishments on board. The pool area is to be increased along with the Owners suite being “tarted” up.

I honestly think Silversea rested on their laurels and then saw the likes of Crystal, Scenic, Seabourn launching new ships and then (and perhaps this is the most telling) Ritz Carlton announced it was entering the cruise industry with 3 yachts. In the ever changing world of luxury cruising, that is big and perhaps worrying news!
