Cruising The Caribbean, Continued !

My Celebrity Cruise Continued!

After enduring a 9-hour flight from London Heathrow to Miami, myself and my sister were shattered but on the other hand, we were extremely excited knowing we were looking forward to 11 nights on the Celebrity Equinox cruising around the Caribbean.

Right throughout the flight, the BA staff were absolutely excellent, seating wasn’t crapped at all, lots of room to move around, I would definitely fly with them again.

Well, when we arrived at Miami airport it was about 9 pm that evening and oh it was mayhem after getting off our flight. There was no one there to tell you where to go or what to do, It was like a cattle market, everyone was just following each other. We eventually arrived at a point where we had to manually do your own fingerprints/pictures of your face. After leaving there we were directed into another room where we waited 2 ½  hours to go through immigration. I am really surprised at the lack of services/attendants at such a massive airport like Miami, being honest we were not impressed at all.

After being held up for so long at immigration we both thought our transfer coach would have left without us. We rushed through to collect our luggage from the turn styles then as we walked outside the airport thank goodness the Celebrity representative were still there waiting for us.

Before joining the ship Celebrity had organised a one night stay at the Crown Plaza hotel, it was only about 5 minutes from Miami airport which was ideal.

The Celebrity representative showed us to our transfer coach, we jumped on and within minutes we were off and both checked in at the hotel.

The Crowne Plaza is a fantastic hotel, the rooms have tea and coffee facilities, which is needed after such a long day travelling, the rooms are spotless and one thing I will say is the bed, ooh wow it was luxurious. The staff were so friendly and helpful and they also do a fantastic breakfast you have so much choice.

To Be Continued!

  1. I am glad you had a good experience in the end. I would have been as surprised as you to find that there was such a lack of organisation at the airport. 2 1/2 hours to clear immigration is hopefully not the norm. I hope the cruise was everything you wished it to be.

    • Sadly, 2:30 hours is very much the norm at many US airports and seaports. We suffered a 4 hour delay in New York in September 2018. Incidentally, American citizens can clear immigration more quickly than other nationalities. Consequently, it might help, if you can choose an American airline, which will arrive through a dedicated terminal and will often carry more American passengers than “aliens”. But unfortunately, service on the likes of United or American Airlines is rarely as good as Virgin Atlantic or even BA. The worst possible scenario is to arrive on a charter flight, operated by a UK airline, because virtually every passenger will be British. The best scenario is to connect onto your transatlantic flight at Dublin, because you will clear US immigration and customs, prior to your departure from Dublin Airport.
