P&O Are Scrapping Service Charges!

I have some fabulous news for you all.

P&O has announced earlier this week that from May 2019 you will no longer have to pay service charges on-board. Cruises, A911, B912, E911/A, J903, N910, R907, X907 and all thereafter) the discretionary daily Service Charge on board will be removed currently.

P&O’s recommended daily service charge is £7 per person per day. At the beginning of this year, they had raised the amount from £6 to £7, this has come as welcome news to  P&O Cruise passengers.

Moving forward all guest will be given the opportunity to tip members of staff throughout their holiday – and the amount will be totally up to you as well.

Just think of the savings, here is an example for you, if you are a family of four with two children over the age of 12 years, you would be saving about £196 on a seven-night sailing, or even £392 on a two-week sailing, so it could make for quite the saving for families with older children and teenagers.

P& O has also advised that this transition will not be overnight, on all cruises before May 2019, guests will still be charged a discretionary service charge of £7 per person per day which will be still added to your onboard account. The daily service charge applies for any guest aged 12 or over.

Don’t forget service charges are not compulsory, so if you are cruising with P&O before May 2019, you can still go to the pursers’ office and either have these removed or altered at your discretion.

My only thought is I hope they do not decide to up their prices to cover the service charges! Let’s hope not!

Other than that I think this is fantastic news for anyone that cruises with P&O, good on you! Let’s just hope other cruise liners follow!

Time will only tell!
