‘Fancy on the Yangtze’ – Part 2 of My Yangtze Adventure!

So a few weeks ago I wrote about the first couple of days sailing on the Yangtze.

A few miles into Fenjie County, on the northern bank of the Yangtze River is Baidi City (White Emperor City), also called Baidi Temple. It is located on Baidi Mountain at the mouth of Qutang Gorge, one of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River.

This was the other optional excursion to the ‘White Emperor City’.  I sat this one out as our Hotel Director said once again there were a great many steps so Peter went in my place along with Babs and Gina.

As you can see from the photos below just getting off the ship was a task in itself!

Babs and Gina took some photos so I could share how restrictive this tour is for people with mobility issues and a couple of videos (see my FB page).  However, you could hire a rickshaw without the wheels, which Gina tried out – take a look at the photos.  Two men will carry you up but you have to walk back down the steps.

Our afternoon included excursion was a relaxing boat ride on the ‘Goddess Stream’.

Situated at the south bank of the Yangtze River, the Goddess Stream is hidden in a deep valley and is 15 kilometres long; among that 10 kilometres section are isolated without human activity due to the running water on narrow stream.

After walking through a couple of ships we reached our ‘smaller’ boats which held 24 people inside.  Our guide explained that 6 of us at a time could proceed on to the back deck to take in the views and photos of this serene and peaceful place.

We stopped at one point where we disembarked onto a pontoon where our guides performed a few songs for us.  Once finished we continued on our way returning to our vessel to get ready for our final evening’s entertainment and Gala Night (more about that another day).
