Cruise on the Mekong

A fantastic way of seeing Vietnam and Cambodia is by River. My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to have the opportunity to go on a 15 day tour from Ho Chi Minh City to Siem Reap.  It started with two nights hotel stay in Ho Chi Minh City, then seven nights onboard the cruise and finished with two nights in Siem Reap.

I would definitely recommend starting in Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City has lots of places to visit such as the markets and Saigon Opera House. One of the key highlights is the Cu Chi Tunnels, I really did learn a lot there and got to see how the soldiers hid during the war. Being the shortest person in our group, I was picked to go in one of the famous hiding spots. Once I stepped down into this squared spot, the tour guide put a wooden lid with leaves to camouflage on top, so for me it was pitch black but it was surprisingly roomer than I thought it would be. If you like you can even go into one of the tunnels which is about 100 metres long. Rickie did this and he had to crawl along on his hands and knees to get through!

Whilst in Ho Chi Minh City we had one of our favourite meals at a local restaurant called Pho 24. Pho is a popular dish which consists of meat, broth and noodles. For $3 USD dollars we got a drink and meal. We loved it as we could add any veg and spices we wanted, it was delicious!!

We were then transferred to stay onboard the Rv La Marguerite. It is a 4 star standard but what made the experience for us was the staff. The service was amazing, they learnt your name on the first day, remember the drink you like and always made us laugh.

We had a Category A cabin which had a stand out balcony on the upper deck.  Size of the cabin was good and having the balcony did make a difference, it gave a lot more light and great to have views of the river as we sailed.

The restaurant had a wide choice of dishes and were very accommodating. There was a live cooking station which served something different every day. I liked that at dinner there would be sample dishes so you could see the meal before you ordered it.

Please look out for my next post which will continue to tell you more about my trip.
