Eating on a cruise ship, one place you can never go hungry ..surely?

Recently I had spoken to a guest of mine that had returned from her cruise, everything was great she said telling me all about the entertainment, the excursions, the fantastic staff, her beautiful cabin, then she finished her great feedback with … the food, I just couldn’t find anything to eat!!!

That comment was a first for me not only as I never find it difficult to find anything to eat on board but I had not heard the comment before from a guest. No dietary issues or fussy eater problems the lady assured me but just couldn’t find food she wanted to eat, claiming she even lost a few pounds!

So sailing on a cruise ship, what is there to expect from Cruise Ship Food.

Eating on the cruise ship, one should never go hungry or in fact, lose weight 🙂

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner will always be included. Most cruise ships have the choice of the Buffet and main dining room. I personally like the dining room (not just to be waited on ) but I eat a little less than when I chose to select an array of concoctions at the Buffet!

Dependent on the cruise ship certain cabins has exclusive dining areas for guests. There may be Speciality Restaurants which normally charge a small cover charge fee. These are normally smaller venues and you will have more chance of having a table for 2. They are themed and will be food such as a Steakhouse, Sushi, French or Italian. The cover charges are generally pretty reasonable.

Always check the Dress code when dining, there may be Gala nights where you can dress up for the main dining room and theme nights. In the main dining room, you can request tables for 2 but you may be sitting on larger tables to meet other guests. If you prefer to just stay casual this is completely fine and you can eat in the Buffet area at your leisure.

Generally, there are snack bars which serve throughout the day and late-night spots onboard to snack into the early hours after all that dancing at the club!

On most Cruise ships you can order room service 24/7, most times room service is free of charge but there may be a small charge during certain times or for specific items.

Cruise ships are much better now catering to guests with any specific dietary requirements. Always best to let us know when you are booking your cruise, and always advisable to speak to the Maitre De onboard to express any requirements or food concerns you have. Cruise Lines tend to be excellent at working with guests who have any food restrictions.

What are your experiences with food onboard your cruise, it would be great to hear your feedback and has anyone returned from their cruise having not really found anything to eat? 🙂
