When is a cruise not a cruise?

…. When it is a Repositioning cruise … it is of course a cruise but with a unique one off itinerary….

The special ship relocation voyages always feature a one-way itinerary once or twice a year when ships will move from where they have spent the spring and summer season to where they will spend the autumn and winter and vice versa to diverse locations such as from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean, Alaska to the Far East, Japan to Vancouver, Hawaii to Canada, Italy to Cape Town and Southampton to New York – since they typically sail from one destination to another—departing from one port and ending in a different one—they offer a blend of exciting cities or ports you wouldn’t see on other itineraries.

“Repositioning Cruise” is one-off  voyage that cruise passenger ships make when transferring from one operational region to another. Usually, this is done in Spring and Fall, often each year. But there are some exceptions of these “usual times”. Your off-season vacations will be marked by discounted cheap rates, big (yet not crowded) cruise ships, lots of “lazy leisure days” to enjoy the tranquility of the sea. Ship relocation deals are the preferable option for “highly addicted” travelers to enjoy a truly special and most affordable sea cruising vacation.

Cruise lines don’t want to sail without passengers on board these ‘operational moving’ cruises as the sailings still have the same running costs therefore Repositioning cruises are great value for money as they often have more sea days than a regular itinerary and to attract passengers are usually great prices and often have unique itineraries and additional on board activities and are sometimes themed with subjects ranging from theatre to wine, while others are enhanced with enrichment options, such as guest lecturers.

They might be called Transatlantic, Relocation, Trans Pacific, Trans Oceanic, Discovery or Grand Voyages – if you like relaxing sea days these can be great options to travel the world for less when you cruise across continents and see more of the world by departing and arriving in two different cities on longer and exciting voyages, transiting famous canals, crossing the world’s biggest oceans. You’ll be most probably sailing coast to coast, often from one sea to another!

What do you think? Do you like the idea of a Repo Cruise …?
