Sky Pad accident

This week making the headlines on Royal Caribbean was the sad news of a 25 year old man from Florida who has broken his pelvis and dislocated his shoulder after the bungee cords on the Sky Pad he was bouncing on snapped and he dropped 20 feet back to the ground. He has now launched a $10 million lawsuit – this happened back in February on a short cruise on the Mariner of the Seas to the Bahamas.

The Sky Pad was installed as part of Independence of the Seas revitalsitation programme last year, and can also be found on the Mariner of the Seas and the newest ship Spectrum of the Seas. The attraction has now been closed whilst they carry out an inspection and at the moment it remains unsure whether it will reopen.

The Sky Pad is a large yellow dome which can be found upon deck 13 within the sports deck and has 4 trampolines which are all rigged to bungee cords, and you then bounce on the trampolines while wearing VR headset to explore virtual reality worlds -such as bouncing over craters or competing in zero gravity games, you get given approx 4 minutes per go .  Passengers over 5 years old were able to go on the ride to bounce and needed to be 7 to wear the VR headset, there are no height restrictions but there was a weight restriction of 20-240 pounds and you get weighed in at check-in. Wait times have been known to exceed 90 minutes so was proving a popular activity onboard the two ships and they had introduced that you could prebook via your cruise planner.

Have you been on the Sky pad or were you looking forward to having a go – and if so has this now put you off if it does reopen?

Have a great couple of weeks?
