Cruise Countdown has begun …. 43 days to go!

You would think working for an award wining cruise company, booking you own holiday
would be a simple task and would take just under half an hour to do. This was definitely not the case when it came to deciding what me and my partner were going to do this holiday and took us over 2 weeks to decide.

The decisions were –

  • Stay at home and have day trips out,
  • Go on a beach/sun holiday for 7 nights
  • Go on a cruise??

The first option was ruled out straight away as we knew this wouldn’t happen, the second one was a possibility but we had done this earlier in the year and my partner has fair skin and has to sit in the shade – this isn’t a fun option for him.

So cruise it was then – which is  when our next dilemma started:

  • Do we have a fly cruise or sail from Southampton??
  • Do we have a preference to Cruise Line,
  • Which ports of call does the ship call in
  • What’s the price?

For some people the cruise line is important as they have a loyalty to brand or are working their way up membership levels. To others which ports of call the ship visits is the main factor as if like my family they spend time planning excursions to ensure the most is made from the time. Whereas others just like a great deal and consider the price first.

After searching through all the fabulous deals we have at Cruise.co.uk, we finally
decided on P&O Cruises Oceana – sailing from Southampton for 11 nights in October. We will be calling at Lisbon, Gibraltar, Malaga, Casablanca, Cadiz (Seville) and La Coruna. With the exception of 2 of these ports the rest are unexplored territory for us.

We have sailed on Oceana last year and I am looking forward to seeing where the £1 million got spent on the refurbishment.

So we have decided to book on a getaway fare and am awaiting for my cabin number to be announced (keeping all fingers and toes crossed for an upgrade). This time we have opted to go for Freedom Dining for the flexibility of times and the opportunity to meet a bigger mixture of people.

We have completed our cruise personaliser on line so P&O have all our essential information. So now we are presented with another dilemma – are we pre-booking any shore excursions and if so which ones, or are we going it alone and just taking a map and exploring !!!

And then when that’s sorted then the packing dilemma will commence – Does the decision making ever end?!!

What dilemmas do you face when booking a holiday? How do you decide on you holidays and who is the main decision maker?? Would love to hear your dilemmas and how you make your decisions
