A little calendar trickery to boost your annual leave!

Whilst some of us find ourselves working a mix of day shifts, evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays, a large proportion of the UK population are fixed to a 9 to 5 Monday to Friday working week… and it is within this format, you will perhaps be able to make the most of a little calendar trickery to boost your annual leave.

In 2020, Good Friday falls on 10th April and Easter Monday falls on the 13th April… provided you do not work weekends & Bank Holidays, you can use just 4 days of your holiday entitlement and enjoy 10 days holiday!

Simply request to book off 14th, 15th, 16th & 17th of April and you will actually be off on Good Friday (10th April) and not have to be back in work until 20th April!

You will of course need to get your requests in early to take advantage of this holiday diary wizardry, yet there is another chance toward the end of the year too… the gift that just keeps on giving 🙂

At Christmas, you will find the same pattern!

Christmas Day falls on a Friday which means the Boxing Day Bank Holiday becomes Monday… still with me? With New Year’s Day falling on a Friday too,  simply request 29th, 30th & 31st December to generate 10 days holiday using only 3 days annual leave!

Or for a real Christmas cracker of a break, request 21st, 22nd, 23rd & 24th December as well, to gift yourself 16 days holiday for the price of 7 days annual leave!

What better festive gift than quality time with loved ones from 21st December right the way through until 4th January 2021?!

& for breaks throughout the year, be sure to take advantage of the Bank Holiday Mondays in May and August, where a request for 4 days annual leave (Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri) will quickly turn into a 9 day holiday!

Note that in 2020, the Early May Bank Holiday which is typically scheduled the first Monday in the month, will actually be taking place on Friday 8th May; so be sure to request 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th May to take advantage of a 9 day holiday on this one!

…& once you have your 2020 holiday requests in place, be sure to make me your first port of call for all your travel needs!

  1. There is no trickery in this, just good common sense.
While I was working, I had always been doing this, as do my children now.!
    Happy Holidaying
