The Caribbean , when to go and why !!

Hi all, I got to thinking I get a lot of questions about the Caribbean all year round and I wanted to share some tips I have picked up along the way. I normally have a lot of people ask for the Caribbean in the summer and there is a reason a lot of the cruise ships are not there. Number 1 is the weather. Over the last few years, the hurricanes have hit pretty hard in the Caribbean. Usually around August September time. (good time NOT to go to the Caribbean).

The hurricanes and the devastation they have caused has been tragic for many places and people in this area, so for me, it is a no-brainer not to go during the worst part of Hurricane season. The season is officially May to October. A lot of the cruise ships reposition end of October and that is the time to get the best bargains.

I myself am booked on the Britannia for next year for the repositioning end of October. If like me you are not keen on flying but cannot get 24 plus days off work, well at least you only have to fly one way. The other option is to fly out there (get the flight out of the way) and then cruise the Caribbean and sail back to Southampton. Usually, this is March April time.

A lot of the cruise lines in the summer that tend to go out of Miami, New York, New Orleans etc are usually no more than 7 nights. I do feel if I was going to fly out all that way I would want more than 7 nights. So if you want to travel to the Caribbean or Mexico in the summer then maybe a cruise and stay is an option.

There are wonderful places to see even on the transatlantic crossing for the repositioning and usually, the cruises are a lot cheaper. The thing I love is the 6 days at sea, this gives me plenty of time to explore the ship, and relax before making the most of the islands and seeing all I can see. Beautiful beaches and even the oldest Naval dockyard in the Caribbean.

If you fancy a cruise and stay, Why not look to  New Orleans or visit Elvis and then take the train down to New Orleans to catch a cruise from there.

So much to see in America and the wonderful Islands that make up the caribbean. Just remember the best dates to go ……. Begin November to end March.
