Medication and rules for different countries (Be aware !)

Hi all, I realise we are coming up to Christmas,

I hope you all have a fabulous one x

But we do get new information through all the time. I have just seen the news that UAE is now asking for a form to be filled out if you are on certain medication. A new online system has been rolled out for travellers carrying medication into the UAE, People bringing a variety of drugs into the country – whether it is for during a holiday stay or on their return to the country from overseas trips – now must complete the online registration to get the all-clear. I did know that tramadol was a big no after that lady was arrested in Egypt, but was unaware of this new ruling. So I thought it would be good to let you all know what is going on.

All travellers going overseas with medication (including over the counter medications) should check if there are any restrictions on medications they intend to take prior to travel, such as weather allowed to take that medication into the country you are visiting, also if you are taking too much with you.

Some countries have extensive lists of medications that are not permitted e.g. India, Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

For the UAE you need to log on to the government site to fill out a form for certain meds. If you pop in your search bar taking meds abroad you will get help with anything you need.

You will need a copy of your prescription and a medical report approved by a medical person, as well as either your Emirates ID number or passport details. It’s not all bad news, some that have used the service are saying it was easy to complete and they had a response within 5 days. These changes were brought in in Oct 2018 and I have just heard about them.

So to take the stress out of your journey check out my tips:

A tip for taking any medication abroad,  if flying always carry in the boxes they came in (original and correctly labelled) and take the paper prescription with you too, for some controlled drugs you may need extra certification, (best to check with your GP) and take the medication in your hand luggage. I always carry spare in my hold luggage too along with another copy of my prescription. Remember if liquid or gel you will have to ask the Pharmacy for 100 ml bottles or tubes and they have to be put in the clear plastic bag with the other liquids when going through passport control checks. If liquids you can take some in a small bottle but they may make you try it.

The best advice is to check the Government website if unsure or have a chat with your GP.

Be safe with your medication.
