Happy Christmas to all the animals out there !

I don’t actually have any pets (fish don’t count). My daughter has A dog, cat, rabbit and various lizards and ew! snakes. So I got to thinking I hope they will have fun this Christmas too. So I looked up some tips for keeping them safe and keeping the vet bills down , over this festive period.

So here goes a few tips to keep them safe :

1. Look after the nibbling pets , keep lights and extra cables away from your pets, cable guards are good for this or keep them off the floor. A nasty electrical shock can put a real damper on things!

2. Do not under any circumstances give the turkey bones to you dogs or cat (no matter how sad they look !) these can splinter and cause all sorts of problems.

3. Christmas plants look very festive but if you have animals that may have a nibble, put the plants up high out of reach. Holly, Poinsettias, and mistletoe are especially poisonous to our furry pets.

4. Christmas baubles are beautiful to look at, but can be highly toxic, check labels if you have very inquisitive cats , kittens or anything that climbs!

5. Vacuum regularly to reduce risk of pine needles getting stuck in our pets paws (ouch, you know what a splinter feels like!!)

6. Keep chocolate , raisins, onions, grapes, sultanas, macademia nuts and alcohol away from your pets all highly toxic. ( keep the Christmas pud a human only dish!)

7. Everyone forgets the tinsel, this is designed to be shiny and pretty but cats especially like to eat this and it can cause extreme problems again just be aware.

8. Of course we all like to make sure our pets have toys to play with too, pressies to unwrap. Just make sure they are bought from a good reputable seller.

The moral of the story is prevention is better than cure, we all love our animals and want to protect them, so take precautions and then everyone can enjoy the festive period.

Merry Christmas to our best friends, or (Our Babies as my mum refers to her little dog Roise!)
