Good service ! Whats your opinion?

Hi All, as I am now away on MSC Magnifica, I got to thinking before I left, What do I class as good service? As a nation are quick to say when we have had bad service or experience but not always reward for good. I was trying to remember when I last put a review on for good service for a bar or restaurant, I have to say it was a while ago. It is a little easier with facebook now. We as a company ask you all the time to rate our service and I really appreciate the comments I get.  I am really thankful for these comments when having a bad day or just need to reassure myself that I am doing the very best I can at my job.

So to look at cruises I have been on, I was thinking what do I consider to be good service as I think it differs for everyone. I love it when onboard the cabin steward asks how my day has been and what have I been up to. I also love to get to know the cabin steward and where they are from. It builds a good report then should anything go wrong, you have them on your side. When My husband took ill on Britannia the cabin steward was so helpful and then when I suffered from an ear infection on Azura, the same applied. I would say I have only had bad service once and I truly believe that was because the waiter was new and that he just needed a bit more training. I was onboard Azura at the time and our main courses were coming out when our friends had not even finished their starters on the same table. As I had my humble beginnings in a restaurant in Harrogate many moons ago, I was always taught the whole table had to be finished before you cleared the table. I am a firm believer in sorting any issues as they come along and simply asked the waiter to come back when we were all finished and to not throw our food at us, (time between courses is always a good thing). Unfortunately, he took this as an affront and then we had to wait 3/4 of an hour before getting offered deserts or coffee. One extreme to the other. So it was simple we ate in a different part of the restaurant after that night. The reason I didn’t kick up too much of a fuss was that he was new and just needed more training (we have all been there).

I have always been very bad at complaining, it just is not my thing. But if you are going to do it, do it ”there and then” is my motto There is no point in complaining 4 weeks later. I do however think that screaming and shouting gets no one anywhere and just gets peoples back up. There is nothing worse than getting a call from a customer that just wants to be downright nasty especially when not your fault.

I have to say my biggest bugbear is bad customer service ” the computer says NO” attitude drives me mad. Or just downright rudeness!

Calm and steady wins the race, Always be prepared to listen is the main thing. I think sometimes we want to rant and do not listen to what is being said by the person you are complaining to.

I also wanted to ask you all what are your biggest bugbears for issues at sea? Please let me know your experiences.

check out the good and bad reviews on our site…..  Real Reviews from you the customer!

We quite often get some weird and wonderful complaints, what are the ones you have heard?

Here is one that blows my mind……… Noisy next door neighbor!

see you when I return from my cruise x
