Caribbean , starting at Guadeloupe, and Death in Paradise.

So this week as I move around the Caribbean, I am concentrating on one of my favorite series that is out at the moment ” Death in Paradise ”Guadeloupe, a French overseas region, is an island group in the southern Caribbean Sea.

paradise Beaches

Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe is were Most of the cruise ships stop.
Most of the filming takes place on the western side of the island , it is famously called the pretty island in the Caribbean but as for the number of murder (fictitious of course) it puts another slant on things.

The factitious town of Saint Marie  in the series has a serious amount of deaths happening there, I am surprised there is any one left.  Deshaies is the town they use for most of the filming , with its colourful shops and Marina its an ideal setting for the program. It’s where the police station and also Catherine’s Bar are located, and where the local market is erected should a story line require it. The police station is actually the office of the local priest, who helpfully vacates the premises as and when required. La Perle beach is the location of DI Goodman’s shack and is one of the most beautiful spots on the island, with its miles of unspoilt beaches edged by palm trees. Between shoots, the shack has to be taken down to prevent it being washed away as in their winter months the tide comes in and the beach is eroded. The foundations are still visible, however, and you probably won’t find a more tranquil spot on Guadeloupe.
I have to say I have loved each detective that has been on the series, starting with Ben Miller in series 1-3 , then Kris Marshall series 3-6 and now we have the actor from Father Ted – Ardal O’Hanlon. They have all been through there ups and downs , and unfortunately Ben Miller died on the series towards the end of series 3, in walks Kris Marshall to solve his murder. Some of the series re filmed on neighbouring islands and they all boast the most pictures beaches and botanical gardens with beautiful mountains to boot.  As you can see I am an avid fan and actually the island itself from reading up on it looks stunning.
Pointe-à-Pitre is a city on the island of Grande-Terre, in Guadeloupe, a French-governed archipelago in the Caribbean. It’s known for its lively markets, like the Marché de la Darse, where fishermen sell their catch from boats at the harbor and you can party in the wonderful bars and restaurants on the Island.
