I’m barred from booking this cruise.

Following my recent article regarding the average age of cruisers becoming younger and younger I was interested to read this week about Uniworld’s new river cruise brand which is aimed specifically at the young market.

U by Uniworld will offer 2 cruises the A and the B and they can only be booked by 21 – 45 year olds. Both ships will carry just 120 passengers, with the A sailing the Rhine, Danube and Main whilst the B will sail along France’s river Seine. The ships are designed for the style conscious with modern Damien Hirst artwork, monochrome flooring and an Ice Bar offering live bands and silent discos. The cabins are also suited to young people with several triple cabins to allow for groups of friends.

As the ship docks U is tailoring shore excursions to their guests with choices including rock climbing and kayaking, rooftop bars and self guided tours and even the chance to dine with local folk in their homes, to really experience a destination. Whilst on board yoga classes and mixology sessions will help guests relax in several ways.

All of this sounds amazing, cruising is attracting younger guests and this is a great way to travel, my only reservation is whether the market is large enough for young people only. And of course, the sadness that I am now too old to try it out myself.
