Introduction To A Viking – Part 1

I have sailed on quite a few of the River Cruise Lines ships, but Viking is one of the few companies I haven’t sampled until now.  I have just returned from a trip on the Viking Kvasir it was a 5 Night sailing from Basel in Switzerland to Cologne in Germany, along with 8 other colleagues.

We were met in Basel by rain and Viking staff who were there to meet us and transfer us to our ship, the journey from Basel was nice and short, as soon as got to the ship we were met by Sharon who was the tour guide amongst other things.

First impressions of a Viking Ship – Stunning and very modern and clean, all of the fleet are the same so it doesn’t matter which ones of the Long Ships you sail on, they will all be the same.

We had lunch as soon as we got on board which was a simple buffet with Wine or Beer or a soft drink of your choice.

Our cabin for the duration was a lower deck outside with half height picture window – this means 2 large portholes so you are able to get plenty of daylight, you can not open the window and they are very high up, if you would like to see out of the windows you need to stand on a chair or your bed to see out. I would honestly say there is no problem with this – all of the cabins inside are exactly the same.

Bathroom – the facilities in your cabin are brilliant a stunning bathroom with double doors so your not having to ” breath in ” to get in and out of the shower, excellent toiletries provide and replenished every day.

Cabin – you can have the beds made as twin or double, plenty of cupboards and good wardrobe space, safe in the cabin, flat screen tv with good choice of channels. Good amount of plugs also scattered around the cabin both European and American.

More to come next time ………………
