More than they Bergened for

This past week I was saddened and shocked at the news there was a mass brawl on board the P&O Britannia.

What’s even more shocking about this news is the ridiculous circumstances that surround it.
On Friday 26th July 2019 around 2am in the morning on route from Bergen back to Southampton after a 7 night trip to The Fjords of Norway
The culprits were dressed as Clowns and this caused particular offence to a family of cruises. There was allegedly a disagreement followed by an extremely violent altercation.
An eye witness said there was blood everywhere as guests used plates and chairs to defend themselves. An urgent may day call rang out over the speakers as security scrambled to the buffet restaurant.
The staff who got involved ended up injured as the fight went from bad to worse.
Hampshire police have acknowledged a male and female couple in their 40’s from Essex have been arrested under suspicion of assault.
P&O have confirmed the couple were effectively under cabin arrest the night before their arrest.
Over two years ago P&O changed their policy on allowing fancy dress in that nobody on board was to be allowed fancy dress on any of their ocean baring cruise ships.
Some people will see this as a huge issue for P&O
However this ship alone carries over 4,000 people per week. That’s over 200,000 per year on this ship alone.
Every now and again we all encounter a few less than severely individuals and it seems on this occasion they boarded a cruise ship. It could have happened on any ship in the world.
P&O like most cruise lines did as much as they could to control the situation but sometimes a prison is more appropriate than a cruise ship for these particular clowns.
Was you on board?
Have you ever experienced anything like this at Sea?
