How do you choose?

When you start to look for your next cruise what is the most important aspect of your search? Do you look for the most technologically advanced ship? Are family facilities important or do you prefer some adult only relaxation? Maybe the ship facilities aren’t as important as the ports of call you visit along the way.

These are just a few of the questions that we might ask when trying to find your perfect cruise. With the huge amount of choice available in the cruise market right now, it is even more important that we can find as much information as we can out, before we start our search. Destination can also have a affect on the type of cruise ship available due to many factors such as the size of cruise port.

Much has been made recently of ships arriving and departing Venice. It wasn’t so long ago that an MSC ship hit a river boat and then a few weeks later a Costa ship became perilously close to hitting the shore and a yacht on it’s way out of Venice during a storm.

These are just a few of the reasons why you won’t find the largest ships visiting Venice. These ships tend to sail predominantly around the Western Mediterranean and Caribbean, where the ports are more suitable for the larger vessels.

I have had a lot of customers recently who have seen some of the newer bigger ships but they have done the Western Mediterranean many times and wanted to visit somewhere different. Greece seems to be one of the most popular places currently and again because of the smaller ports you tend to find older smaller ships sailing these routes.

So the question that we tend to find ourselves asking the most is which is more important to you, the ports of call or the ship itself?

It will be interesting to know what other important factors you think about when booking your next cruise. Feel free to comment away!
