But they’re expensive

When first introducing the idea of cruising to new customers one of the common misconceptions is that they are expensive. Certainly there are cruises out there that are, but on the whole you get a lot of value for your money.

So what exactly is included? It surprises some people just exactly how much is included with a cruise. Food essentially as much as you can eat with most cruise ships offering food up to an average of 20 hours a day and some 24 hours!! How much would you expect to pay on a land based holiday for all that food? With a cruise you don’t have to worry about food costs as the majority is included!

How much would it cost me to watch one of the shows? Well nothing! All shows are included once on-board so that’s another thing you don’t need to worry about. Most main shows also wouldn’t look out of place on Broadway such is their quality of production. You could pay upwards of £50 per person to watch a show of these standards in the UK.

Aren’t drinks expensive? Drinks prices are actually very similar to what you would pay here. But most cruise lines now offer All Inclusive drinks packages, which is another great way to ensure that you have covered all bases before travel and don’t have to worry about a large bill at the end of the cruise!

How much would I need to tip? Tipping is customary on most cruises however there are a growing number of cruise lines that include tips in their prices. Marella, P&O and more recently MSC to name a few. On most cruise lines tipping is optional and can be removed otherwise expect to pay around £10 per person per day. For the service you can receive on-board, it is most definitely worth it.

Add to the above the fact you only need to unpack once but can get to visit many different places on one trip. All facilities under one roof with everything close to hand and the opportunity to try new activities and food you might not get the chance to back home. Cruising is certainly better value than most realise.

If you would like me to show you some of our fantastic value for money cruises please just let me know.

Look forward to hearing from you soon

  1. I like Royal Caribbean ships but they do so few 14 days and 7 + 7 just is not as good . I travel alone so their activities on board are great.
    Very disappointed with P & O Britannia
Pool closed at approx 6 despite their being no entertainment in that area some nights. No ice creams in the buffet as they had no fridge , only 3 years old when I went , however their were more ports to visit.
Just need a ship with loads to do on board , 14 days, really good buffet , with ice cream, big ship.

  2. I agree with what James says, except for drinks. Drinks tend to be significantly more expensive than on land, and most cruise lines add up to 15% gratuity to the bill. Buying a drinks package is certainly not reasonable if one person in the cabin does not drink, as every person in the cabin has to buy a package.

  3. The most unreasonable fare is SINGLE PASSENGER fare, some time it is more that what two passengers would pay. Cruise line should create more SINGLE CABINS in their ships and charge only 10 to 15% more for solo passengers. This is most urgent. I would go on cruising with such a company every time.
The second most expensive extras in any cruise budget, are excursions which amount to lot of money. I would like that cruse companies should offer 2 free excursion for 7 day cruise, 5 free excursions for 14 day cruise and every port free excursion for longer duration cruises. Large majority of couples and solos would love to join such cruise.
Lastly there should be a facility for solos and couples alike who can fill last minute cabins with say 1 week or less notice. I would be one who can join the cruise with even 3 days notice when the price is right.

  4. Cruises are very enjoyable , we have cruised with p&o and cunard for 15 years but this year ..no, I am finding the prices are higher, less discounts than they used to be,perhaps its because of tv documentarys promoting cruises that have been on fairly recently I don’t know but they are more expensive this year are mostof them, unless your very lucky at the last minute

  5. Cruising remains excellent value for money, based on actual paid price, not brochure prices , or even the promotional prices. Why do cruise-ship companies insult our intelligence with their pricing policies ? Cannot agree that drinks prices are reasonable. They are not. I can afford them , if I choose to, but these policies, like others, I consider gratuitous, and I drink less , spend less overall on board. As we are now taking longer itineraries the thought of spending $ 1,300 and more per person on drink does not appeal. A bottle of wine at dinner has become extortionately expensive due to ” quality” policy. 35 cruises / 435 days. Departing shortly for the next – 2 booked for 2020 , will look for one more.
