Another World First, but which Cruise Line this time?

So we’ve had carousels, surf machines, sky dive simulators, robotic bar tenders, monstrously scary water slides, aqua parks, sky ride peddle cars, dodgems, ice rinks, rock climbing walls, real grass lawns, 55ft dive boards, laser tag, panic rooms gosh you name it…ships these days seem to have it all. Recently hitting the record books was Celebrity Cruises with their stunning new vessel Edge, the first ever ship costing $1,000,000,000 (yes that’s 1 billion US dollars) to build but it would seem that’s now old news.

The spot light this time round is on Carnival and their next arrival which will be delivered in August 2020 to become the largest of their fleet weighing in at 80,000 tonnes capable of carrying 6630 people, she will also be the first ship in the Carnival fleet to run on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) which produces almost zero emissions. Yay for Carnival.

The beautiful Carnival Mardi Gras will be welcomed with a wide array of vibrant bars, tantalising restaurants and beautiful spaces packed with facilities as you would expect from a huge liner but the real talking point hitting the headlines is one new addition in particular. BOLT – The worlds very first roller coaster at sea.

I kid you not. For the first time ever in the history of cruising, Carnival guests can speed down a track at over 40 miles per hour, twisting and turning high above the sea over an 800 foot long track. This is either super frightening or terribly exciting, probably both I haven’t quite decided but none the less it will have Carnival in the record books and the other cruise lines looking at what they can devise next to beat that achievement.

Mardi Gras will be based in Port Canaveral (Orlando) at a brand-new cruise terminal, but she will debut first in Europe where she will sail one 9 night Baltic Sea cruise and one 14 night transatlantic cruise with stops in the Canary Islands and Portugal. Her US debut will be in New York City, from there she will sail a 6 night Canada and New England cruise round trip before repositioning to her permanent home port of Port Canaveral to sail 7 night back to back cruises of the Eastern and Western Caribbean.

If you want to be one of the first to ride a coaster at sea get a wiggle on. Mardi Gras itineraries are on sale already for her 2020/21 voyages.
