Entry/Exit System (EES)
Everything you need to know about the new Entry/Exit System (EES)

From the 12th October 2025 the new Entry/Exit System (EES) for select European countries will be introduced at airports. This is a new automated IT system for registering non-EU nationals travelling for short stays.

As this may affect some of our guests when travelling, we wanted to give you a brief overview of the new system and provide you with links where you can find out more information in order to be prepared ahead of your trip.

Travelling to the EU

The EU will soon be introducing some important changes for travel to Europe. The EU Entry/Exit (EES) system is a new electronic system that will replace the physical stamping of passports when you go through passport control. You will be required to undergo biometric checks (fingerprints and facial image).

ETIAS is the EU’s new travel authorisation scheme for visa-exempt travellers, similar to the USA's ESTA scheme, and will require you to apply ahead of travel. Travellers can find more information and apply for an ETIAS for a fee.

Applicable European Countries

The following European countries will be implementing the new Entry/Exit System (EES) from the 12th October 2025;

Austria - Belgium - Bulgaria - Croatia - Czechia - Denmark - Estonia - Finland - France - Germany - Greece - Hungary - Iceland - Italy - Latvia - Liechtenstein - Lithuania - Luxembourg - Malta - Netherlands - Norway - Poland - Portugal - Romania Slovakia - Slovenia - Spain - Sweden - Switzerland

For the purpose of the EES, ‘non-EU national’ means a traveller not holding the nationality of any European Union country or the nationality of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland.

Which travellers must be registered in the EES?

The EES applies to non-EU nationals who:

require a short-stay visa to enter the European countries using the EES, or
are visa-exempt for short stays in these countries.

In both cases, your entries, exits, and any refusals of entry will be recorded electronically in the EES.
