Saturday Kitchen Meets Britannia

Yes you heard it the ‘Secret Ingredient’ to P&O’s Britannia is the addition of the charmingly handsome Saturday Kitchen’s James Martin.

The handsome 41-year-old from Yorkshire and master pâtissier Eric Lanlard were named alongside P&O favourites Marco Pierre White, Atul Kochhar and Olly Smith as the food and wine experts for the British-themed ship, which launches next year.

Martin, who has presented BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen for six years, is setting up a new feature on board called the Cookery Club, where he and fellow celebrity chefs will teach groups of up to 24 passengers some of the secrets of the trade.

The cruise giant hopes its Britishness will give it the edge in a market increasingly focused on large ‘fun’ ships. In November, Royal Caribbean is launching Quantum of the Seas with bumper cars, skydiving and a pod that rises 90m (300ft) over the sea. Sister ship Anthem of the Seas will be based in Southampton next year.

For those of you that cared and sailed on the Ocean Village you would have experienced James’s restaurants on board and I have to say, I have never tasted a steak and ale pie like it since. His restaurant on board the OV2 was outstanding. I am sure the Ocean Village followers will remember. Although it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the news.

I personally think P&O have got it right, James Martin has a huge following and represents everything British and of course living in Yorkshire myself I am slightly biast.

Britannia’s secret ingredient wins my heart, does it yours? I hops so!
