60MPH WINDS BREAK THE BREAKAWAY

Just weeks after its debut, Norwegian Cruise Lines newest ship, Breakaway, has sustained exterior damage from bad weather conditions, as confirmed by a spokeswoman for Norwegian.

Apparently while the Breakaway was returning from Bermuda back to New York , Norwegian Breakaway encountered winds exceeding 50 knots. The high winds caused some of the outermost sections of the forward balcony dividers on deck 8 to become dislodged.  Luckily there were no injuries to guests or crew. The affected balconies are expected to be operational for the next cruise.

An eyewitness reported that the M6 cabin dividers were rattling due to the high winds and then broke apart at the bolts and welds causing debris to fly everywhere.

HIgh winds of course can be common on a cruise, but you do not expect balcont dividers to work their way lose.

Some customers have been saying that the Norwegian Breakaway is a poor design and more tests should have been carried out, while other say that the reports are over exaggerated and  the damage was just to a few balconies and possible not as drastic as originally made out.

All I can say is there are teething problems on every new ship and if someone offered for me to cruise on the Breakaway tomorrow I wouldnt need asking twice.
