WONDER OF THE WORLD IN CHAOS……..

Seven awe-inspiring natural wonders of the world which inspire people to discover, explore and engage in these natural phenomenas, In chaos, I here you question, yes that’s right, so come and join me on a sense of discovery of one very important Natural Wonder and I will explain why.

The Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights , are naturally occurring lights that create intriguing and spectacular displays in the sky. The Aurora lights frequently appear as a diffused glow lighting up the horizon. The most amazing sight is when the Northern Lights appears as waves across the sky, it is almost as if the lights are dancing.

The best way to see the Aurora Borealis is by seeking the Northern Lights. Although there is an Aurora Borealis that occurs in both the northern and southern hemispheres, the southern hemisphere locations are much more challenging. The Northern Lights activity takes place all year in all types of weather. However, to actually see the lights, the weather has to be dark and clear (no guarantee!). The main Northern Lights season is from November to April and are visible from the afternoon until the middle of the night.

This nicely comes onto my point of this natural wonder in chaos and that’s due to the demand of ‘Wonder Seekers’ searching for the lights by cruising deep inside the arctic circle to enhance this already magical experience. Since NASA predicted the brightest Northern Lights display in 50 years, demand has been so high that a queue is already forming for 2013/2014 departures.

I was lucky to experience this first hand with a company called Hurtigruten who specialise on Norwegian Coastal Voyages from Bergen to Kirkenes, ( the most northern tip of the Arctic Circle). Dog sledging, with twelve stunning husky dogs, while the northern lights shimmered in the star studded Arctic sky above, was one of the most memorable moments of my life.

You don’t expect climbing walls and west end shows on Hurtigruten, but what you can expect is fine dining and a hospitality on board that will give you the feeling of home. No dressing up is needed, due to the temperatures in winter months your dress code is more on warm and comfortable than glitz and glamour. To go in search for the Northern Lights is a one off lifetime experience and that’s exactly what you get.

Demand is high for 2013/2014 so please call me for some amazing cruise packages where I can hopefully bring one of the wonders of your world to life, like I did to mine.

  1. We went with Hurtigruten last year. Saw the Aurora 3 times. Food excellent, Only 2 choices for main meals but very edible. Suited me better than posh nosh. My back’s too bad to risk a dog sled ride, but others loved it. Yes, I would go again.
