My holiday away part 1- Fort Lauderdale

So I’m back from an amazing summer holiday to the USA and thought id share some of it with you! Our first stop was Fort Lauderdale, I’ve never been before and honestly cant wait to return! My wife, children all loved it and with good reason. We stayed at The Sonesta Beach Hotel, right on the beach, great location and only 10-15 minutes from the airport.

The weather was fantastic, boiling, sunny with the odd most amazing thunderstorm/down pour, that would last 20 minutes and then clear. This is completely the norm in Florida.

A huge highlight of our visit to Fort Lauderdale, was a trip on The Jungle Queen Riverboat. The River Queen is a 125-passenger paddle wheel riverboat that will feature daily, 90-minute Sightseeing cruises and a visit to their private island, whilst seeing whats known as the Venice of America! We booked the 3 hour trip, an hour cruising, celebrity house spotting, then a visit to the private island to see so much wildlife and an alligator show, we all thoroughly enjoyed it!

Fort Lauderdale, was clean, good value for money, whether you want a good inexpensive diner for dinner or want to splash out at the famous Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant, the resort had it all! The sea was clear, water was warm and considering August, was the complete opposite to Europe when we’ve been during school holidays before – it was fairly quiet! We paid a visit The huge Galleria Mall, not necessarily for the shopping but for the air conditioning! With Macey’s and many other designer outlets and restaurants, it was a shoppers paradise and a break from the scorching midday sun! The pavements were alive with Lizards and even crabs in the bushes, it was paradise, but this was only the start of our holiday. After 4 days, we made our way to the Port Everglades cruise terminal to join the Caribbean Princess. It was here we really did discover paradise!
