Stepping out of my comfort zone!

Well, this time next week I will be on a train heading for Newcastle with my colleague Holly to embark on one of my favourite ships, Fred Olsen Balmoral for our five night trip to the Fjords. I am so excited as I have wanted to visit the Fjords for a long time. Clients tell me the scenery is stunning so I can’t wait to see it for myself.

We will mainly be doing scenic cruising so we are hoping for a bit of sunshine so that we can enjoy it from the comfort of our sun loungers on the Sun Deck, possibly while enjoying a small G n T! Sadly we won’t be visiting Flam so we won’t be able to experience the famous train but there is always next time, and there definitely will be the next time.

We have opted for a rather exciting excursion in Hardangerfjord, something completely out of my comfort zone to be honest, and whilst I am looking forward to it I must admit I am a bit nervous at the same time! I am not one for outdoor pursuits and have never been a fan of anything that involves water but hey ho, I will be doing both. We have booked a ‘rib adventure’. Amazingly, given the average age of Fred Olsen’s passengers, they have had to put on an extra two excursions as it has proved so popular. Well if the oldies can do it, so can I 🙂

We have to don thermal rubber suits for the occasion, I can assure you there will be no photos of this! Anyway, from what I can gather we are going to spend 45 minutes speeding around the fjord, wildlife spotting, and venturing behind one of Norway’s fabulous waterfalls. I shall be gripping on tightly as I am not a fan of speed. I am sure it will be a fabulous adventure and if I survive I will be telling you all about it on my return.

While we are in Bergen we have decided against an organised excursion and we are just going to do our own thing, have a wander around the pretty waterfront, maybe pick up a couple of trolls while we are there.

All in all I am sure we are going to have a wonderful few days. I know Fred Olsen won’t disappoint, they always deliver the best service, great food (most important), and such lovely staff.

I will catch you on the other side with news of our adventure so for now,  happy cruising folks!
