MS Konigsdam – a fabulous day out and a nice spot of lunch!

It’s been a while since I saw 4.30am, and it has also been a while since I did a ship visit in Southampton but get up at that ungodly hour I did last Tuesday for a trip to visit Holland America Konigsdam. It has been 10 years since I was last on a Holland America ship, Eurodam in 2008, so I was really keen to see this ship and to see if Holland America are as fabulous as I remember. Where does the time go?

I travelled down with my colleagues Barbara and Teresa and in Southampton, we met up with Dani and Emily. It was like a Mothers meeting honestly. It is always great to meet up. So many colleagues are home workers that it is a rare treat, and boy did we make the most of it. Give or take a couple of minor incidents, me nearly face-planting the carpet in the Buffet, and a prawn that went AWOL during lunch, it was a fabulous day.

The ship is beautiful, very stylish and welcoming, and the staff that we met were so charming, obviously very happy in their work. I will tell you more about the ship next time, and of course, there will be many photo’s of carpets for your viewing pleasure, and it will be a great pleasure I assure you, there were some stunners!

Of course, the highlight of any ship visit is lunch and I have to say, it was fabulous. The food was delicious and the service slick. Unfortunately, I was so ravenous after my early start that I devoured the prawn and avocado starter before I remembered to take a photo of it, however, I did take photo’s of the other courses, all of which were superbly cooked and scrumptious. The Tomato and Carrot soup was a highlight surprisingly. I have to admit that I didn’t manage the chocolate dessert, it was a bit too rich for me. It did look gorgeous though.

The only downside of having a big lunch is that I could really do with a nap afterwards but hey ho! We went to the Queens Lounge for a presentation, all about Holland America, their ships, destinations, itineraries, shore excursions etc. I have posted a video on my facebook page, it is an hour long but if you want to learn more about this cruiseline it is very informative and worth a watch.

Well, that’s it for this week folks, I hope you are salivating looking at the pictures of lunch 🙂

For now, happy cruising!
