Red Sea Quest

Well, after a testing year my wife and I are almost ready to escape from the daily routine and set off on our latest cruising adventure.

Again we are sailing with our favourite cruise line Marella, but this time on the Discovery. The Marella Discovery joined the then Thomson fleet in June 2016, having previously sailed as Royal Caribbean’s Splendour of the Seas.

Another re-positional sailing, this time from Naples and arriving into Dubai. Lots of relaxing sea days, which is just what we need. Adult-only and All-Inclusive, what’s not to like.

Compared with some of the older, smaller Thomson ships we have sailed on in the past,  this one boasts an outdoor cinema, a rock-climbing wall, a mini-golf course, five-storey atrium and an indoor pool.

As well as the usual Gym & Spa facilities there is an Escape Room for the more adventurous. In the evening there is nothing better than sitting back in the 800 capacity theatre and watching the latest stage production from the talented and hard working entertainment team.

On the sea days, I plan to spend my time in The Veranda. This just-for-adults sunbathing area is located at the back of the ship, so you can relax with a drink in hand and take in the views of the horizon.

As I have sailed on this ship previously, on Thomson`s Shake Down cruise, I am particularly looking forward to revisiting Gallery 47°, this is the Italian dining room situated directly above the main dining room. The food was delicious.

  • Decks: 11
  • Cabins: 918
  • Restaurants: 7
  • Bars: 7
  • Pools: 2
  • Lifts: 9

On this cruise, the main highlights are sailing through the Suez canal, having an overnight stay in Aqaba in Jordan and spending the day in Dubai.

Really looking forward to Jordan especially as we have never been there.
