MSC Seaside – The ship that follows the sun.

On November 29, 2017, MSC took delivery of its revolutionary new cruise ship the MSC Seaside. Designed by Fincantieri S.p.A., and built at their Monfalcone shipyard, the 153,316 gross ton MSC Seaside is the largest cruise ship ever built by Fincantieri. The 1,059 feet long Seaside, incorporates a number of unique design elements.

The Seaside concept positions the engine room to a more historical midship location, which creates a more balanced ship, putting  less stress on the hull. It also provides a more efficient design with a central casing and two passenger stair towers, one forward and one aft. These technological advancements are also expected to reduce fuel consumption by as much as 25 percent, making it more economical and better for the environment.

The design blends indoor and outdoor areas, including dining, bars, lounge areas, and a glass-walled multi-deck atrium. The open-air promenade on Deck 8, which is the widest on any ship, features two catwalks with glass floors and railings. There is a large pool area at the back of Deck 7,  and 2 glass elevators rising to Deck 16 where the 98-foot glass catwalk, the Bridge of Sighs, provides breathtaking views out over the ocean.

The 4,100-passenger MSC Seaside, dubbed ‘the ship that follows the sun’, is now heading for Miami on a 21-day voyage, where it will be based throughout 2018. It’s designed to make the most of its Caribbean sailings, with lots of outdoor seating, open decks and sports facilities.

You will be spoilt for choice between the 19 bars and lounges and 11 dining venues including a seafood restaurant, steakhouse, bistro, creperie, teppanyaki, sushi bar – and two buffets.

Holidaying with the kids?  Well don’t worry because a babysitting service will look after kids aged between three and 11 up until 2am if you want.

MSC Cruises is an Italian-founded, Swiss-based family company but this ship is firmly targeted at an international market. And with ten more ships on the order books, including two announced this week, that means at least one a year will be built until 2026.
